Department of Labor Site Visit and Kemps Facility Tour

August 10, 2017

On Thursday, July 27, 2017 the Department of Labor accompanied MnAMP grant director, Anne Willaert, and MnAMP project coordinator, Steve Lommen, on a site visit of Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) and a tour of DCTC's employer partner, the Kemps manufacturing facility in Farmington, Minnesota. This facility produces yogurt, sour cream and cottage cheese for the whole nation.

Founded in 1914, Kemps LLC, based in St. Paul, Minnesota, markets milk, ice cream and related dairy products under the Kemps brand. The company operates six manufacturing facilities in Minneapolis, Rochester, Farmington and Duluth, Minnesota and Cedarburg, Wisconsin and employs 1,200 people in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Kemps is well known in the industry for introducing innovative new products and has received frequent recognition for successful first-to-market product launches such as Kemps IttiBitz and Kemps Frozen Yogurt Parfaits.

PIPELINE Project opportunity for students and employers

Pipeline Project

MnAMP college, South Central College, has been featured in an article by Northfield News about the PIPELINE Project. The statewide program provides students with the opportunity to earn college credits with tuition reimbursement and work at the same time, and manufacturing employers gain the skillful employees that they need.

South Central College has been partnering with area manufacturing employers for the past three years; Five students graduated in the spring, and nine remain in the program.
